Standards in Health Information Management Systems - a review of the role and importance of standardisation, and of the crucial importance of selection and implementation of appropriate standards in a technology initiative. Standards abound in all walks of life, not least in technology and biomedicine: the vital skill is in knowing where standards are essential, and why, and which standards to adopt for specific functions. Standards offer an approach towards future-proofing of technology investments, and must be deployed wisely, both specified for internal use within systems, as well as for external interfaces between systems. HI203-09 must be completed prior to enrolment in this course.
